Description

Description

Gerris is an open-source adaptive mesh Navier–Stokes solver for multiphase and free-surface flows, offering dynamically refined quadtree/octree grids, parallel computation, and robust boundary-condition handling for complex fluid dynamics simulations in two- and three-dimensions. Includes surface-tension models, droplet dynamics, wave-structure interaction, scalable MPI parallelism, scripting, and visualization tools for efficient validation.

Key Advantages

  • Adaptive quadtree/octree meshing for high local resolution with low computational cost.
  • Native multiphase and free-surface physics (VOF, surface tension) for realistic fluid interfaces.
  • Scalable MPI parallelism and lightweight scripting for automated parameter studies and coupling.

Professional Scope

Essential for Architects, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical engineers, Interior Designers, and Surveyors–GIS specialists for accurate fluid, coastal, drainage, HVAC, and site-interaction analyses informing design and safety decisions.

Access & Licensing

Available as Free open-source software (GPL); there are no official Paid-Subscription or Paid-Lifetime editions.

Specialization

Vital across CFD, Hydrology, Aerospace, Automotive, Geotechnical, CAE, FEA coupling, CAM/3D-print process flows, Robotics/Scientific simulation and Data Science workflows due to precise fluid dynamics, multiphysics coupling, and numerical libraries for research and engineering.
